DOHA: The Hamad Medical Corporation will soon start a new service to help elderly patients with urological disorders who need to change catheters frequently, said officials yesterday.
A group of experts will visit elderly patients at their home on a weekly basis and change catheters for their convenience.
Nearly 40 patients will benefit from the initiative by the HMC and the Association of Hamad bin Jassim Charity. An agreement was signed at the Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City between the HMC and the charity. “Patients usually need to spend over five hours to come to the hospital every other week in an ambulance and get the catheters changed, it makes them tired as majority of them are old. With this new service we will visit homes and serve the patients,” said Dr Khalid Al Jaalham, Consultant, Urology, and Assistant Head of Urology Department at the HMC.
“Small units of experts will visit houses. Teams visiting will keep the privacy of the house and the patient. Therefore, we will have male and female nurses,” he added.
The project is likely to be extended with other services, although details were not revealed. It is part of services supported with QR75,000 by the charity.
