DOHA: Qataris seeking treatment at primary health centres would soon be able to avail of their services using their Qatari ID cards instead of health cards.
The West Bay Health Center has already started the new system and it will be expanded to all health centres in the country in phases, Al Sharq reported.
Once implemented, it will be mandatory for visitors to produce their Qatari ID cards to see a doctor and avail of other services.
Currently a health card is required for those seeking treatment at primary health centres and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) facilities.
The National Health Insurance Scheme — Seha — has allowed all beneficiaries to seek treatment at facilities included in the scheme using their Qatari ID cards.
All citizens are already covered by the scheme and expatriates will be covered in a later phase.
The Seha provider network currently includes the leading public healthcare facilities and a number of private clinics and hospitals. The new move comes ahead of plans to expand the Seha coverage to primary health centres.
