Doha, Qatar: The annual rise of the Pleiades on June 7 marks the beginning of the scorching summer, said Qatar Meteorology Department, indicating that the next few days will witness the hottest days of the year.

The department stated in a social media post that this period lasts 13 days and, during this period, the heat intensifies and the northwestern winds (Al-Bawaarih) continue to blow strongly.

"It was said in ancient times: 'The beginning of the scorching summer is marked by the rising of the Pleiades, and its end by the rising of Canopus' — and the days between these two stars are the hottest days of the year," said the department.

The minimum and maximum temperatures in the country, as of June 8, 2026, range between 26°C and 43°C.
