Doha: A gang of thieves was caught by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during a house robbery here recently, Al Sharq reported yesterday. The gang, which the daily said comprised “Arab” nationals, was apparently involved in a number of cases of breaking and entering residential areas. They were caught after an undercover operation against them.
The department had received a number of calls about robbery cases here, after which, undercover police officers began searching for the criminals. Residential areas and villas were the main targets of these thieves, the daily said. Early investigation into the case led the CID to one of the members of the said gang, which helped the department catch other members. The gang was caught red-handed during a robbery scene.
An undisclosed, albeit ‘large’, amount of stolen money was collected from the gang. The department also found many types of equipment that the gang used for entering and breaking into houses. The culprits confessed to the crimes, saying that they had robbed houses and some commercial outlets.

New health centre planned at Ain Khaled

DOHA: The crowding at the Mesaimeer health centre is likely to be addressed, with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) planning to set up a new health centre in the neighbouring Ain Khaled area. Responding to complaints about the crowding and the long waiting time for patients at the Mesaimeer facility, PHCC said it is trying to address the issue by opening new health centres and increasing the capacity in many of the existing facilities.
A new health centre in Ain Khaled area, which is close to Mesaimeer is in the pipeline, PHCC said, in a statement issued to a local Arabic daily.
According to some earlier reports, the number of nationals and residents registered with the Mesaimeer health centre has crossed 100,000 with a number of families being transferred to the facility from other health centres, especially the Omar Bin Khatab and Muntazah health centres.
Reacting to complaints about the long waiting time at the vaccination unit in Mesaimeer, the PHCC said the unit has the capacity to vaccinate only 30 children in a day. There is a plan to expand the facility to accommodate more visitors, it added.
