DOHA: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Ali bin Ibrahim Al Nuaimi (pictured) will deliver The 2016 Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah International Energy Awards Lecture at the annual gala event held in the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, on May 24.
The Al Attiyah International Energy Awards for Lifetime Achievement, supported this year by Maersk Oil Qatar, was established in 2013 to celebrate the legacy of H E Al Attiyah, Qatar’s former Minister of Energy and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister, by recognising distinguished individuals for their achievements over a whole career in service of the global energy industry.
The annual Al Attiyah Lecture provides the national and international audience with an outlook for the energy industry, delivering insights on the possible implications of current trends for the international markets in the year ahead. Oil prices have crashed since mid-2014 on the back of a massive global oil glut and dwindling demand. Opec meanwhile has adopted a strategy to protect market share and has abandoned its traditional role of swing producer to support prices.
“We are honoured to welcome Al Nuaimi to give the 2016 Lecture, especially at this critically challenging time facing the regional and global oil industry,” Al Attiyah, Chairman of the Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah International Foundation for Energy & Sustainable Development, which is the host of the annual Awards event.
Al Nuaimi, who has held the Saudi energy portfolio for more than two decades, is a world authority on oil pricing, market stability and energy security, while being a primary architect of Opec strategy. Al Nuaimi joined the Arabian American Oil Company , Aramco in 1947. He graduated with a degree in geology from Lehigh University and a Masters degree from Stanford University. In 1984, he made history as the first Saudi to become President of Aramco, and oversaw the final stages of the successful transition of Aramco into Saudi Aramco, and in 1988 became its first Saudi CEO.
