Doha: Enterprise Qatar (EQ) recently presented awards to the teaching staff of the winning schools who participated in the Schools Olympic Program’s (SOP) inaugural Trade Fair competition, under the theme ‘Sport and Investment’.
Forty schools and 320 students took part in the Trade Fair competition, which asked students to create and market products with a sporting theme for sale to the general public. The best 20 teams were selected for the semi finals after a first round that saw trade fairs at their respective campuses.
The Trade Fair competition was organised as part of the 6th Edition of the SOP and was run jointly by EQ and the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).
A semi final was held at the Landmark Mall on the 28th and 29th March, from which finalists were selected to compete for the grand prize at the SOP Aspire Zone finals on 23rd May.
Nasser Al Muhannadi, COO of Enterprise Qatar presented the awards to the teachers of the winning teams of the Trade Fair competition.
He said that the schools participating in the Trade Fair had created an impressive and creative range of products, and generated a significant amount of sales at the Mall and Aspire Zone.
Teams were judged on the originality of their ideas, their profit margins, and the effectiveness of their ability to work as a team using the traditional roles found in most corporate structures.
The Trade Fair competition was run by the Learning and Development team at EQ, whose guidance and instruction ensured that school teams were able to implement important business principles into the trade stand activities.
“EQ believes that an entrepreneurial spirit can be fostered from an early age, and our partnership in the SOP this year is just one of several programs that targets school students. The enthusiasm shown by the students who participated in this competition was exceptionally good, and we hope that the experience gained will encourage these budding entrepreneurs to think seriously about starting their own businesses in the future. And when they do, EQ is ready to provide the support that turns business dreams into reality,” Al Muhanndi said.
A high level judging team of EQ and QOC officials assessed the stands and selected the first, second and third placed schools.
Boys’ school winners were the Commercial School, Jassim Bin Hamad School and Saoud Bin Abdul Rahman.
A large number of girls’ schools also took part and created a wide variety of interesting and innovative products including a number of fashion lines.
Girls’ schools winners were Fatima Bint Walid, Syrian School and Tunisian School.
