DOHA: The Ministry of Interior has advised parents not to let children play on internal roads, especially at Ramadan nights, to protect them from accidents.
In a safety advisory titled ‘Tips for Safe Ramadan’ issued yesterday, the ministry has asked motorists to avoid rushing for Iftar, saying it is a major cause of accidents during Ramadan.
People have also been advised to avoid parking vehicles in such a way that may obstruct traffic, especially during prayer timings like Taraweeh (Ramadan night prayers) or Iftar gatherings.
“Please avoid last day shopping for Eid and finish it early enough to avoid traffic jams and parking at no parking areas because of huge rush,” said the advisory.
Special caution has been advised while driving during the “Karangao Night” on Ramadan 15. Children will be walking around neighbourhoods to collect gifts.
Begging is prohibited in Qatar and the ministry has asked people to report to it if they come across any beggars. They may call Anti-Begging Section on 2347444 / 33618627.
The needy people can approach authorized charity organizations in the country for help, said the ministry.
Other safety tips include:
Check the validity of canned, frozen or preserved foodstuff and make sure there aren’t any changes in the foodstuff’s smell, colour or texture. For this reason, make sure foodstuff has been kept in a clean and closed place or in the refrigerator.
When fire breaks out in the oil pan, avoid pouring water into it as it ignites fire. Cover the pan by placing the nearest thick lid or with fire blanket.
When fire breaks out in a trash bin, cover the burning bin immediately with a damp cloth to prevent oxygen from igniting the fire. Ensure that a good fire extinguisher is available at home.
Don’t leave children in the kitchen or nearby hot and burning materials or electrical power sources.
Don’t put on flowing dresses or nylon mixed wears in the kitchen to avoid fire. When you smell gas odour, immediately open all doors and windows to reduce concentration of leaked gas.
Never use a burning matchstick near a gas cylinder to locate the place of leakage.
Avoid switching on the exhaust fan for ventilation and don’t switch on lights as they may serve as points of ignition to the highly inflammable gas.
In case of any emergency immediately call 999
