Islamabad: Pakistan and India yesterday exchanged lists of prisoners lodged in their prisons. It follows a consular agreement signed in May 2008. Lists are to be exchanged twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.
Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a list of 296 Indian prisoners to the High Commission of India in Islamabad. According to the list, there are 47 common citizens, 237 fishermen and 12 youth in jails. The spokesperson said a similar list of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails was handed over to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Magistrate abducted
Islamabad: Armed militants kidnapped Judicial Magistrate Ziarat Jam Saka Dashti in Pishin district of Balochistan on Monday, police said. A senior police officer said gunmen seized the vehicle and freed the driver and the security guard near Saranan,” he said, adding Dashti was picked up by militants close to Ziarat and Pishin crossing. “We have taken the driver and the guard in our custody,” Deputy Commissioner Pishin, Bashir Bazai said. Police launched search for the magistrate.
Afghan raids kill 27 Taliban
Kabul: Twenty-seven Taliban were killed during operations by Afghan security forces. The Ministry of Interior said in a statement yesterday that operations were conducted by police, army and intelligence officials in Kunar, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Balkh, Zabul and Helmand provinces in the past 24 hours. Twenty-one rebels were injured, six detained and weapons, ammunition and explosives seized, it added. AGENCIEs
