DOHA: Katara Ramadan Festival starts tomorrow with the opening of The Quran and Astronomy Exhibition at Building 19.
The exhibition, which opens at 9pm, sheds light on Quranic verses and the creation of the Universe, planets, the sky and everything related to the cosmos. Visitors will learn about the precision of the Holy Quran in the description of the Universe and scientific facts. Also starting tomorrow is a treasure hunting contest ‘Find Your Treasure’ at 9pm every Thursday and Friday during Ramadan.
Following the treasure map, participants will search for 10 boxes containing treasure hidden in various parts of Katara. A cash award of QR5,000 is among prizes.
People can also participate in the Katara Social Media Competition to win five coupons daily from restaurants at Katara by answering questions about Quran and astronomy via Katara’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. With the theme ‘Katara bridging Quran and Astronomy’, the festival features 25 innovative and creative events and activities, including expos, workshops, religious lectures and religious songs, among others.
Other exhibitions are The Astrolabe, Solar System, Map of the Cosmos and Galaxies. Visitors will be given the chance to experience travel in space ship, gaze at stars and various constellations using a telescope, have a boat trip under the stars or post photos on the Ramadan Wall.
Bach and the Universe concert, religious chants on Quran and the universe, Ramadan chants and a shadow show are other exciting spectacles. A book fair on astronomy, a fine art competition and planets workshop will also be held.
There will be lectures on ‘The Reflection of the Absolute Universal Truths in the Holy Quran’, ‘I Swear by the Position of the Stars’, ‘Islamic Art, Architecture and the Quran’, and ‘Astronomy and Fiction’.
