SANAA: The two-week long Sixth Sana'a Summer Festival which concluded here Sunday night attracted round 700,000 visitors comprising Yemenis from different governorates and other visitors, an official said.

The Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Festival and Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism Abdul Jabbar Saeed, in a statement to Yemen news agency SABA, said, "The average number of daily visitors to the 15-day festival is estimated around 50,000."

A large turnout of visitors from Yemen's various provinces to this year's festival participated in sports tourism and recreational activities besides being updated on cultural awareness.

The festival was held, from August 18th to September 1, after a two-year hiatus due to the political and security situation in the country.

The festival included a display of handicrafts produced by women's associations.

Folk art from every province was displayed in tents, as well as handicrafts and traditional costumes, dances and songs, where each province will participate to showcase the diversity of folklore and cultural heritage in Yemen.

"A number of tents reflected the culture and folklore, customs and way of life of certain areas with a special character, including the Tehama Tent, the Hadramaut Tent, the Bedouin Tent and the Socotra Tent," said Saeed.

With the revival of the summer festival and overwhelming response to it, the Ministry of Tourism hopes to stimulate domestic tourism and reassure both local and international tourists about Yemen's stability, he added. (QNA)
