Home ministry makes PIO card valid for lifetime

New Delhi: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement, the home ministry has issued a notification that the “Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card” shall be valid for a lifetime.
The notification was made on Tuesday, a Home Ministry release said yesterday.
“In pursuance of the announcement made by the prime minister at Madison Square Garden in New York on September 28, 2014, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a Notification on September 30, 2014 to the effect that Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card shall be valid for lifetime, and the PIO Card holder shall be exempt from police reporting/registration,” the release said.
The release further clarified that that all PIO cards issued till September 30, 2014 “are automatically deemed to have life time validity.”
Modi announced at the Madison Square Garden, to cheers from the assembled gathering, that PIO card holders will get lifelong visas.
Three army officers killed in UP chopper crash 

Lucknow: Three army officers were killed when an army helicopter crashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district yesterday morning, officials said.
The Cheetah helicopter took off from Bareilly for a routine sortie. It developed a technical snag and crashed around 8am in Nakatiya, a rural area of Bareilly and burst into flames.
An earlier report said it was an air force helicopter, but it was later confirmed to be a 23-year-old army chopper.
Major Abhijeet Thapa, 29, Major Vikas Varyani, 29, and Captain Avinash, 26, were killed in the incident, a district official said.
While the major rank officials were the pilot and co-pilot, the captain was from the engineering corp, an official said.
Senior district and army officials rushed to the site and expedited the operations to pull out the bodies of the officers.
Notification to regularise e-rickshaws

New Delhi: The Union Road Transport and Highway Ministry yesterday issued a notification to regularise e-rickshaws, sources said.
The gazetted notification by the ministry was aimed at re-starting the operation of e-rickshaws.
BJP Delhi president Satish Upadhyay welcomed the notification. Upadhyay said as a result of the efforts of Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari, the notification will pave the way for legal and safe operation of e-rickshaw not only in Delhi but all over India.
He also said after the notification, it is the responsibility of all the state governments including Delhi to start smooth operation of e-rickshaws after overcoming all the legal hindrances.
