Doha: The Ministry of Social Development and the Family, in partnership with the Institute of Social and Economic Survey Research at Qatar University, organised a training workshop on the research application of the “Evaluation examination, brief intervention and referral” approach to treat adolescents with addiction risks and behavioural abnormalities.

The training workshop was attended by members of the treatment and rehabilitation teams of the centres affiliated with Qatar Foundation for Social Work, including doctors, nurses, and psychologists, in addition to a group of social workers working in schools.

The workshop, which was presented by Dr. Khaled Abdul Jabbar, a consultant to the Family Affairs Department in the Ministry, included three main axes, namely, the mechanisms of a comprehensive assessment examination by following the skills of regular interviews in case of suspicion of addictive behaviours, methods of brief intervention that focuses on awareness of the dangers of drugs, and the reasons and terms of referral to a treatment centre for a more comprehensive treatment plan.

During the discussions, Dr  Khaled Abdul  Jabbar focused on the challenges and dangers facing adolescents, including drugs, and the most important reasons that lead them to fall into addiction, methods and skills for educating adolescents and how to accommodate them and the importance of concerted efforts to educate them and protect them from the bad effects of social and other media.
