DOHA: Japanese Ambassador Kenjiro Monji passed the baton to Cecile El Beleidi, British Chargé d’Affaires and Martin Hope, Director of the British Council for the “Qatar UK 2013”, recently at Katara Drama Theatre.
The ceremony took place just before the screening of the Japanese film “My Neighbor Totoro” at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) at Katara in the presence of Abdulaziz bin Khalid Al Khater, CEO of Doha Film Institute, Ludmila Cvikova, Head of International Programming of DFI.
Ambassador Monji thanked the audience for their presence at the screening of ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, which he said, happened to be his favourite and one of the world famous and popular Miyazaki Animes.
Ambassador Monji also expressed his gratitude to the DFI for presenting Japanese films at the fourth DTFF after having shown seven masterpieces at the Japanese Cinema Showcase this year under “Qatar Japan 2012” to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Qatar.
Qatar Japan 2012 will continue until the end of the year, the biggest event of which will be the Japan booth at the Doha International Book Fair from December 12 to 22 at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
Japan, as a guest of honour, will present its culture through books and various events. Among many facets of Japanese cultures, the main feature will be the pop culture such as anime, manga, fashion, and music.
