DOHA: A private school in Mesaimeer area, that remains badly hit by the traffic congestion on the Wakra-Abu Hamour Road has approached the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) seeking an immediate solution to the problem.

Two expatriate schools, Birla Public School (BPS) and Pak Shama, located close to the Church Complex in Mesaimeer have been hit directly by the congestion on the road passing through the area linking Wakra with Abu Hamour.

“Our school opened today after the winter holidays and many of our students could not reach the school on time due to the traffic jam. The classes start at 7am but eight of our buses reached about half an hour late,” Joseph K, Administrative Manager of BPS told The Peninsula yesterday.

“We have written to the Public Works Authority as well as the private company executing the road work in the area seeking a solution to the problem,” he added.

Joseph said the situation became worse after the authorities closed a U-turn  near the Church Complex that provided motorists coming from the Wakra side easy access to both the schools.

“With the closure of this U-turn, all the vehicles heading to the two schools from the Wakra side must go to the Woqod roundabout to take a U-turn. And the Woqod roundabout is crowded on all sides during the peak hours. Sometimes, people coming from Wakra are forced to wait for about 30 minutes just to cross this roundabout,” said Joseph.

Opening the new traffic light near the Church Complex will solve the problem to a great extent.

“Until then, we are asking to re open the U-turn near the complex as a temporary solution,” said Joseph.
