ISLAMABAD: The US- funded Entrepreneurs Project in Pakistan will train 26,000 women embellishers across the country to improve their skills to increase their incomes by 2014.

Through the project, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provides female artisans with skills to improve their products, access better markets and increase their incomes. It provides skills and improves business know-how of low-income women engaged in running businesses at homes.

According to Jamila, one of 26,000 women who will benefit from this project, her income has grown manifold after the training she received from the Entrepreneurs Project.

“Now I don’t have to think about what I will feed my children. Instead, I can think about my children going to school and learning things I don’t know,” she said. Her husband is a day labourer and his modest income does not cover the family’s basic needs. Jamila used to embroider fabric using Sindhi and Baluchi stitching and did beadwork, but owing to just a few orders, earned only $7 a month.
