“Qatar is one of the few countries in the region to have made important political, educational and social changes that expand work opportunities for women. These factors have been crucial in encouraging more Qatari women to enter the workforce and play a more significant role in moving Qatar towards a well-rounded, knowledge-based society”, said Abdullah Al Mansoori, Executive Director, QCF.
The lecture will address the empowerment and entrepreneurship landscape for women in Qatar, as well as the important role that education plays. It will also shed light on personal insights adding career women on how to overcome gender, cultural and social barriers and excel in the workforce.
In recent years, Qatar has seen a tremendous surge in the number of women in the workforce. According to the International Labour Office, in 2010, women’s participation in the labour force reached 52.1 percent in Qatar, 39.2 percent in Bahrain, 43.3 percent in Kuwait, 28 percent in Oman, 17.4 percent in Saudi Arabia, and 43.7 percent in the UAE.
Although predominantly employed in the public and the services sectors, Qatar has been witnessing a steady rise in women entrepreneurship as it provides social flexibility to balance traditional roles and their career aspirations.
