Ambassador of Egypt to Qatar   H E Amr El Sherbini has emphasised Africa’s appreciation of Qatar as an effective partner while disclosing that the continent is open to partners.
Speaking during the Africa Day celebration in Doha on Wednesday, El Sherbini, who serves as president of the African Group of Ambassadors in Qatar, said Qatar shows significant interest in Africa and is a reliable and effective partner in its economic development.

The Africa Day event was attended by heads of missions from Africa, Europe, Asia and South America attached to Qatar. Besides, Director of African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdulla bin Hassan Al Jaber and Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro were also in attendance.

“Qatar works hard to develop and consolidate its cooperation with our continent in all fields by employing the best available capabilities and opportunities to serve our common interest,” El Sherbini said.
The Egyptian envoy noted that despite the challenges, Africa remains the continent of youth and future, and it strives to achieve a steady pace of development by implementing continental projects via the collective efforts of various African agencies, in addition to regional trade agreements, in particular, the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).

Ambassador Al Jaber said Qatar has fostered good relations with the African countries for many years. He expressed the desire of the country to enhance such ties and make them more distinguished. Ambassador Al Jaber thanked the Egyptian envoy for organising the event and hailed it as an opportunity to strengthen Arab-African relations and cooperation.

The participating African countries at the event displayed aspects of their culture, like arts, cuisine and music. Participants included Egypt, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, Niger, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Eritrea, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Liberia, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, among others.

In its 59th edition, Africa Day is celebrated every year on May 25 to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, succeeded by the African Union (AU) in 2002.
