Doha, Qatar: Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council and the British Council, successfully concluded a five-day training programme as part of the Qatar Research Excellence Workshop.

As part of QRDI Council’s commitment to cultivating a dynamic and synergistic RDI ecosystem, the RDI Communities on the InnoLight platform serves as a strategic convening space for accomplished researchers, pioneering innovators, and sectoral leaders. These communities facilitate high-value knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the advancement of solutions aligned with national priorities. This workshop is one of the many exclusive benefits available to members of the QRDI community, granting them privileged access to expert-led sessions and opportunities to co-create high-impact research outcomes.

The workshop was designed to support researchers in building the essential competencies needed for academic success in global, multicultural environments. Delivered entirely in English, the workshop series focused on strengthening academic writing, research collaboration, digital visibility, effective proposal development, and presentation skills. A total of 37 PhD holders from academia, government, and industry participated in the workshop, bringing diverse perspectives and expertise to the sessions.

RDI Program Director at QRDI Council, Aysha Abdulhameed Al Mudahka,  “Our partnership with the British Council directly supports Qatar’s efforts to create a strong connected research ecosystem. By equipping early and mid-career researchers with the skills and tools essential for success in the international academic field, we are investing in the foundations of a knowledge-based economy aligned with Qatar’s Vision 2030.”

British Council Country Director, Dr. Waseem Kotoub: “The British Council values its long-lasting partnership with the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council. Through this training workshop targeting early and mid-career researchers, we are working together to support Qatar’s Vision 2030 by equipping future researchers with the skills needed to contribute to Qatar’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy.”

The first day featured an intensive foundation module, followed by sessions on academic collaboration. Over the course of the week, participants engaged in interactive and practice-based sessions covering advanced topics such as digital research strategies, structuring impactful proposals, and refining academic writing across two dedicated modules.

The training material was developed by the British Council and delivered by Dr. Matt Lane, Co-Director of The Researcher Development Partnership in the UK, and previously served as a Researcher Developer at the University of Cambridge from 2010 to 2018.
