ISLAMABAD: Indian authorities have handed over a list of 386 Pakistanis detained in Indian jails to the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi.

However, according to records of Pakistani prisoners maintained by the Foreign Ministry, the Pakistan High Commission, NGOs and relatives of prisoners, there are 485 Pakistanis in Indian jails, an official of the Foreign Ministry informed the Senate Standing Committee on Narcotics Control and Interior.

The Pakistan High Commission has taken up the matter with Indian authorities to clarify the discrepancy, the official said.

He said 30 Pakistani prisoners had completed their sentences but Indian authorities had not released them.

Candidates retain brothers’ seats

PESHAWAR: Two independent candidates have not only retained the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats of their slain brothers but also obtained more than double the votes in the August 22 by-elections, in which turnout was higher than that in other constituencies in the province.

According to results shown on the Election Commission’s website, Jamshid Mohmand got 36,699 votes on PK-27, Mardan constituency where his brother Imran Khan Mohmand had secured 13,180 ballots in the May 11 poll.
