DOHA: Some areas in the north and northwestern parts of the country received scattered rains yesterday afternoon.

Light showers were reported from Al Nasrania, Dukhan, Al Ghazlania and Al Atooriya, among other places.

“There were thundery rains in some parts of the country, especially in the north between 2pm and 3pm today,” a forecaster at the Meteorology Department told this daily last evening.

“We are not expecting further rains tomorrow and in the following days since rain during this season is exceptional in Qatar,” he added.

He said a significant decline in temperature could be expected only after two weeks, although mercury would start dipping with the beginning of September.

Several residents captured yesterday’s showers in their cameras and posted them on social networking sites like Twitter.

The daily weather report issued by the Met office has forecast “hot and humid” weather today with “some scattered clouds.”

Temperature in Doha would hover between 32 and 41 degrees Celsius while humidity in the early hours of the day would soar to 95 percent, said the forecast. The Peninsula
