Doha, Qatar: Qatar welcomed 2.338 million visitors through its land, air and sea ports during the first eight months of 2026, underscoring the continued importance of regional and international tourism to the country’s economic diversification strategy.
Data released by Qatar Tourism yesterday showed that visitor arrivals rose in August, with 303,000 people visiting the country during the month, compared with 285,000 in July, representing a month-on-month increase of 6.3 percent.
The latest figures highlight the gradual recovery in tourism activity following fluctuations in arrivals earlier in the year, while also reflecting Qatar’s appeal across key regional and international source markets.
Visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries remained the largest contributor to Qatar’s tourism sector between January and August, accounting for 958,000 visitors, or 41 percent of the total arrivals. The strong share of GCC visitors reinforces the significance of Qatar’s proximity, connectivity and diverse leisure, shopping and entertainment offerings for travellers from across the region.
Asia and Oceania ranked second among source markets, contributing 489,000 visitors, representing 20.9 percent of the total number of arrivals during the eight-month period.
Europe closely followed in third place with 486,000 visitors, accounting for 20.8 percent of total arrivals, demonstrating the continued strength of Qatar’s tourism links with major European markets.
Meanwhile, the Americas contributed 169,000 visitors, or 7.2 percent of the total. Visitors from other Arab countries numbered 162,000, representing 6.9 percent, while other African countries accounted for 73,000 visitors, or around 3.1 percent.
The broad geographical spread of arrivals reflects Qatar Tourism’s efforts to diversify the country’s visitor markets and position Qatar as a year-round destination offering cultural, sports, business and family-oriented experiences. The August increase also extended the recovery in visitor flows seen during the summer months. Qatar recorded 285,000 visitors in July, following 222,000 in June and 267,000 in May, after arrivals had dropped sharply to 63,000 in March. The figures rose again to 129,000 in April, according to previously reported tourism data.
Earlier data showed Qatar received 1.13 million visitors during the first quarter of 2026.
