New Delhi: A 55-year-old Afghan widower set about finding himself a wife again, but ended up being turned down on account of his wrinkled face. Now, after cosmetic surgery in New Delhi, he hopes his countrywomen will look kindly on him.
After the death of his wife in 2009, Abdul Khan (name changed) started feeling lonely. He wanted to remarry, but none of the women he approached would agree to his proposal.
Then came an advertisement on TV, which offered him a glimmer of hope. “I had done enough for my family and wanted a bride for myself. I came across an advertisement on TV about facelift. Besides, my friends suggested that New Delhi would be the place where I could get it done,” Khan said over the phone.
Khan underwent surgery at the capital’s Ganga Ram Hospital on October 31.
He is now happy with the man in the mirror — he looks younger and more attractive. “I am quite happy to have got the facelift. I hope the women will not refuse me now,” Khan said.
Khan was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital on October 30, and after surgery on October 31, he was set to be discharged yesterday.
Mahesh Mangal, chairman of the Department of Cosmetics and Plastic Surgery at the hospital, operated upon Khan.
According to Mangal, Delhi is emerging as a popular destination for cosmetic surgery in Afghanistan, because the strife-torn nation has limited medical services.
“In the last two years, I have operated on around 30 such cases from Afghanistan,” Mangal said.
