ISLAMABAD: The government in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and the National Database and Registration Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for setting up citizens facilitation centres (CFCs) in the province.
Officials said yesterday that under the MOU, Nadra will provide computerised record of registration of arms and driving licences, vehicles and other documents. KPK Chief Secretary Amjad Ali and Nadra Chairman Imtiaz Tajwar signed the MOU at the Nadra headquarters.
Interior Minister Nisar Ali and KPK Chief Minister Pervez Khattak were also in attendance.
Pakistanis urged to pay penalties
ISLAMABAD: A subcommittee of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has suggested that the government should help secure release of prisoners from Saudi jails by paying penalty for their minor offences.
A meeting of the committee, held in the Parliament House with Senator Sehar Kamran in the chair, was attended by Senators Rafique Rajwana and Ali Rind, official sources said yesterday. Officials of the Foreign Office and Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis also participated in the proceedings.
The committee was informed that there were 2,162 Pakistani prisoners in Saudi jails, out of which 109 could not afford to pay penalties.
5 whale sharks killed in Karachi
KARACHI: At least five whale sharks, all of them aged between three and four years, have been killed by fishermen within less than two weeks.
The latest victim was a 6.7-metre-long whale shark caught and killed in Gwadar on Thursday, according to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Pakistan) yesterday, which is maintaining an inventory of whale sharks caught or spotted in Sindh and Balochistan waters.
The whale shark was caught and killed in a gill net at Cher Koh, West Bay, Gwadar on Thursday, said Abdul Rahim, WWF-P site coordinator.
