Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has concluded the four-day examinations of the Quran Categories branch of the 31st Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Quran Competition, with 1,073 Qatari men and women taking part.

The examinations, which ended yesterday, began on October 31 and covered five levels of memorisation, ranging from five to 25 parts of the Holy Quran. The participants included 454 males and 619 females. Organised by the competition’s organising committee, the branch provides participants with an opportunity to assess their memorisation, improve their recitation and Tajweed skills, and gradually progress towards memorising the entire Holy Quran.

The experiences of participants highlighted the educational value of the competition, with many describing it as an incentive to regularly revise and consolidate their memorisation while setting higher goals for future editions.

Grade 8 student Saud Ali Al Nuaimi, who participated for the first time in the category of the last five parts, said the competition offered an opportunity to assess his memorisation and identify areas for improvement. He said he had prepared by allocating time to revise the required portions, expressing his ambition to memorise the entire Holy Quran.

Fellow Grade 8 student Hassan Abdulaziz Al Ansari, participating for the second time, said the competition encouraged him to strengthen his memorisation and improve his knowledge of Tajweed.
