Doha: Al Rayyan booked a place in the semi-finals of the Emir Cup football championship with a 2-1 win over Al Gharafa at Al Sadd Stadium here yesterday. Rodrigo Tabata (27th minute) and Abdulrahman Harazi (72nd) scored for Al Rayyan while Fahid Al Shammari (48th) found the net for Al Gharafa.
Al Rayan will meet the winners of today’s quarter-final between, Qatar Stars League champions Lekhwiya and Al Khor in the semis. "It was a fabulous fight from us," Al Harazi, who scored the match winner for Al Rayyan said after the match.
"It feels great to have won this quarter-final. I hope we continue like this and impress our fans," he added.
Abdulghani Muneed of Al Gharafa said: "I congratulate the Al Rayyan side. They played well. They are a strong side since they have been playing well. We did our best but in the end, it was not enough." Muneed slammed the referee's decision to slap a red card against George Kwesi who was judged to having unfairly brought down Al Rayyan player Ahmed Alaaeldin Abdlmotaal in the 20th minute.→ See also page 28
