DOHA: Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art recently opened the ‘Selections from the Collection’ exhibition, which runs until August 31.

The exhibition covers three galleries on the ground floor of the museum located near Education City. Drawn from the permanent collection, the artworks in this exhibition highlight the artists’ use of visual elements such as form, colour and line to create predominantly non-figurative compositions. Works by artists such as Mohammed Melehi, Ali Hassan and Ahmed Nawar that have been on display in previous Mathaf exhibitions are shown alongside newly featured artists and artworks.

The exhibition ‘Forever Now: Five Anecdotes from the Permanent Collection’ is extended until October 6 in the first floor galleries, to provide visitors the opportunity to view works from Mathaf’s collection through multiple perspectives.

The exhibition posits a new understanding of five diverse modern Arab artists: Fahrelnissa Zeid, Jewad Selim, Saliba Al Doueihy, Salim Al Dabbagh and Ahmed Cherkaoui.

‘Forever Now’ examines these artists’ interactions with their immediate environments, histories, and cultures. The extended show also features additional works by Ahmed Cherkaoui.

Mathaf envisions ‘Forever Now’ and ‘Selections from the Collection’ as platforms for research about Arab artists and artworks, as well as the context of their production. These two exhibitions provide an insightful look into the diversity of works that are owned by the museum.

Admission to these exhibitions is free. For more information, visit www.mathaf.org.qa. The Peninsula
