DOHA: Projects managed by ASTAD, a Qatar-based project management consultancy, has won five awards at MEED Quality Awards ceremony recently.
ASTAD in a statement yesterday said bagging these prestigious awards is an unrivalled success considering the numerous competitive mega-projects in the Gulf region.
The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) Project at Education City in Qatar has been selected as the GCC Quality Project of the Year at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2015.
Managed and entered by ASTAD Project Management under the patronage of Qatar Foundation (QF), the architectural marvel was also named the National and GCC’s Social Infrastructure Project of the Year.
The QFIS building reflects Qatar’s vision of becoming a regional knowledge hub merging modernity with its rich Islamic heritage. The architectural marvel emulates the Islamic concept of Kulliya as it houses both a mosque as well as a university in a modern setting.
Ali Al Khalifa, CEO of ASTAD, said: “As a Qatari project management consultancy we are proud to be a part of building the way to a new era for Qatar, and to have engaged many local companies in the process. Over half of the work at QFIS was entrusted to Qatari companies, and more than a quarter of the companies involved at the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena were local as well.
Recognitions of this level affirm ASTAD’s expertise and capabilities as a local company in managing iconic and complex projects up to highest international standards. At ASTAD we have been adamant in upholding the values of our triangle—managing projects within scope, time, and cost whilst delivering at the highest possible quality—and these awards are only an additional motive for us to continue to work towards being the best project managers in Qatar and the region as a whole.”
One of the main venues of the 2015 Men’s Handball Championship, Ali bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena, was also a national winner of the highly coveted Building Project of the Year award. The project is managed and entered by ASTAD and owned by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).
The Doha-based consultancy (ASTAD) was entrusted with the delivery of these projects on behalf of the project owners — QF and QOC, respectively.
At the award ceremony, which was held in Dubai, Fahad Al Jahrami, ASTAD Director of Design and Construction Management, said: “This significant award truly demonstrates that we succeeded in delivering a state-of-the-art facility for the 2015 Men’s Handball Championship, but more importantly a premier venue that will be a center for community development in the future.”
