BAGHDAD: A pro-government fighter was killed in a suspected IS attack on a military site north-west of Baghdad on Saturday, according to an Iraqi police officer.

Four bombers attempted to force their way into the site in al-Halabsah district, triggering clashes with guards manning the site, police captain Nazhan al-Khedr told Anadolu Agency.

"Three bombers were killed while the fourth managed to blow himself up, killing a fighter and injuring several others," he said.

He said the Iraqi army sent military reinforcements into the area in anticipation of further attacks.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iraqi authorities often blame IS for attacks in Baghdad as a way to ease military pressures on the terrorist group in Mosul, where the Iraqi army is trying to dislodge IS from its last stronghold in northern Iraq.
