Rio de Janeiro: As the Brazilian metropolis Rio de Janeiro prepares for the official opening ceremony of the 31st Olympic Games tomorrow, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) have finalised preparations to inform participating guests and athletes about the progress being made towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
The SC’s booth at Bayt Qatar, the Qatar Olympic Committee’s hospitality house at Rio, will showcase the very best of the country’s traditions and culture to visitors, world media and athletes.
For the opening of Bayt Qatar, the high-level delegation from the SC will be led by Assistant Secretary General Nasser Al Khater.
“We are delighted to be taking part in Bayt Qatar during the Rio Olympics, and believe it will be an important platform to showcase to visitors from around the world what the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will look like,” said Al Khater.
“A delegation from Qatar will be present at Bayt Qatar and the Rio Olympics opening ceremony as well as the Olympic Games to draw vital learning experiences from this mega-event, as we have done with past events. With only six years left until we host the world in Qatar, our staff will gain crucial exposure to the magnitude of such events. We look forward also to informing and educating visitors about our considerable progress towards hosting the first ever FIFA World Cup in the Middle East.”
Dr. Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, said: “It is a very exciting time for Olympic sport in Qatar and we are thrilled have the support of the Supreme Committee ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
“Bayt Qatar will showcase our unique culture, warm hospitality and passion for sport and we cannot wait to welcome people from Brazil and around the world to join us. We also hope that the whole of Qatar will join our partners in getting behind our Qatari athletes and celebrate their incredible achievements in the true spirit of Olympism.”
This will be Qatar’s ninth participation at the Olympic Games, after competing for the first time at Los Angeles 1984. The Qatari team consists of 38 athletes from 10 sports federations, including four graduates of the Aspire Academy in Doha.
The SC’s presence at Bayt Qatar in Rio de Janeiro will continue till Olympic Games closing ceremony.
