MANILA: Someone from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was involved in the alleged P300m ($6.8m) extortion bid against Janet Lim-Napoles, her lawyer claimed yesterday.
“Yes, P300m,” lawyer Lorna Kapunan said when asked on ANC Headstart if the NBI had asked for money from Napoles to make charges against her “disappear.”
“I will not name now but whoever the person who came forward said that it was for this whole case to disappear. Sadly, it covered not only the NBI but also the DOJ,” Kapunan
added.
She said the attempt was recorded on Napoles’ phone and that the businesswoman could identify the NBI personnel.
A radio report yesterday said Lawyer Cecilio Zamora, NBI spokesperson, had asked Kapunan to name the NBI personnel involved in the alleged extortion attempt.
He said the entire NBI has been tainted by Napoles’ allegations.
Napoles’ camp had earlier claimed that whistle-blower Benhur Luy had asked for P300 million, apart from making several other demands, “in exchange for dropping” illegal detention charges against the alleged funds scam mastermind.
