ISLAMABAD: History is repeating itself. Pakistan’s disgraced former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who sent Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family into exile on the advice of a ‘friendly’ country 13 years back, is being asked to leave the country for good to lessen the internal pressure to try him for treason and abrogation of the Constitution in 1999.
Musharraf was put on Exit Control List, which prevents someone from leaving the country pending trial, on the orders of the Sindh High Court on returning home from self-exile early this year and unless the Ministry of Interior removes him from the list, he cannot leave the country. Musharraf is adamant from day one and is insisting he will face all cases against him in the courts and until exoneration or conviction he would not leave the country.
According to an informed source, a five member delegation of Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-N and Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf leaders visited Musharraf’s farm house in Chak Shehzad last week and told him that a bail is likely to be granted to him on November 1 on a hearing fixed by additional district and session judge Islamabad for announcement of verdict on bail application in a case charging him with ordering the killing of some militants in a mosque in Islamabad.
But On November 1, the court not only rescheduled the announcement of the verdict to November 4 but also ordered initiation of fresh investigation into the case. Internews
