DOHA: People have high expectations from the new traffic law whose draft was discussed by the Advisory Council recently.
One of the expectations is that it might give motorists a chance to take the Traffic Department to court if they feel the fine for a violation or any other punitive action is unjustified.
Khalid Al Suwadi, reacting to reports of the traffic law being amended, said expected the new legislation to allow people to take the Traffic Department to court over its punitive actions.
Abdullah Abdul Malik said road users, sociologists and road safety experts should be extensively consulted before the draft law is approved for implementation.
Hassan Al Muftah seemed to be upset with the authorities for installing radars at different points of roads and highways, local Arabic daily Al Watan reports.
“This is not a solution to the problem of traffic violations.”
Al Muftah said motorists of so many nationalities are in Qatar and come from different cultures. There is a mix-up of cultures so when an accident takes place this factor should be considered.
He said when an accident takes place, some motorists do not remove their cars from the road until police arrive. “This is a cultural problem.”
He said the traffic law does not specify any punishment for a motorist involved in an accident not moving his car from the site.
