DOHA: A jersey signed by Brazilian football legend Pele and a letter written by Mahatma Gandhi, the founding father of India, in 1931 are among the collector’s items to be auctioned during Social Development Center’s (SDC) Eighth Gala Dinner tomorrow at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

Held under the patronage of the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and

H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the dinner is a prominent event to raise funds for SDC’s social and community development programmes.

Donations collected from this year’s event will be used to support SDC’s entrepreneurial programmes such as Tanmiya, Rasameel Fund, Badr...Wa Int Gadr and Reyada — The Qatari Entrepreneur Award.

Other items on auction include an autographed shot of Pele, a jersey and a ball signed by FC Barcelona, a Rolls Royce–Ghost Six Senses, a Carbon Credit Certificate representing Brazil’s aim to minimise carbon emission within as many projects as possible across its cities, a tribal bracelet inspired by Brazilian native Indians, Formula 1 Paddock VIP tickets and four VIP tickets to an FC Barcelona game in the world famous Camp Nou.

“The auction is an anticipated part of the Gala Dinner and therefore, we are very excited about this year’s items.

“We went for unique collector’s items that signified the Qatar and Brazil synergy, yet were contemporary and diverse.

“I would specially like to thank Mr Salim bin Said Al Mohannadi, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sea Shore Group, for his support towards the auction items,” said Manar Al Dossari, Communication Manager, SDC.

“We are looking forward to a hugely successful event that will help us achieve our goal of providing adequate entrepreneurial support to aspiring individuals in Qatar, in turn helping develop the nation’s economy,” Al Dossari added.

“We encourage donors to come forward and participate in this event, which is widely recognised in Qatar,” she said.

The event is being held in partnership with ExxonMobil in Qatar.

Famous for its unique culture-themed attractions, the dinner this year will reflect a tropical Brazilian theme.

It will be dedicated to friendship and cooperation between Qatar and Brazil.

In addition to a creative showcase of SDC’s events and activities, the evening will feature exciting musical and artistic performances, including a freestyle football performance by Brazilian and Qatari entertainers.
