ISLAMABAD: The gas pipeline project between Pakistan and Iran is due to launch officially on March 11.
According to Pakistani media, the pipeline will enable the export of 21.5 million cubic meters (mcm) of Iran’s natural gas to Pakistan on a daily basis.
Iran has already built more than 900 kilometers of the pipeline on its soil.
"We have successfully completed all negotiations," Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said after returning from Iran Monday.
The two sides have set up a joint contracting company to build the pipeline in the next 15 months.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar told sais: "Pakistan has to do what it deems fit and what is in its national interest.
Lack of economic growth has also seen peace stalled in the region." (QNA)
