DOHA: The Minister of Business and Trade H E Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz Al Thani has said that Qatar would reinforce its focus on diversifying its economy to make sure that the country is going ahead with its long-term sustainable economic development agenda.
On the occasion of the launch of the Ministry’s document that analyses 30-years’ of Qatar’s business and trade growth, the minister noted the future of the country’s growth lies in its capacity to keep the pace of development by less depending on hydrocarbon resources.
The Qatar National Vision 2030 has clearly underlined this policy.
The report released by the Ministry provides an overview of the evolution of the Qatari economy over the past three decades and progress it has made towards meeting the strategic objectives of Qatar.
The Minister said that Qatar has built a vibrant and dynamic economy supported by solid institutional and regulatory foundations and has achieved unparalleled GDP growth during the past few years. Yet, Qatar recognises that the future of this country and the well-being of its people lie in its ability to sustain third development in long term, by building a well-diversified economy that is less dependent on hydrocarbons. This recognition is embodied within the basic pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to assist Qatar in establishing itself as a leader through regional and international economies and investment and trade platforms.
Sheikh Jassim said the ministry of Business and Trade plays a vital role in ensuring that the pillars of the national strategy are achieved through interaction and cooperation with leaders, entrepreneurs, business personnel and consumers within the economic system. The ministry is also working to develop a capable nation of human resources which will be trained in line with best international training practices, and according to standards that meet the needs of economic and social development in Qatar.
“We hope the study report would provide a context to economic stakeholders and decision-makers with information and statistical data that will facilitate the way forward on our path to growth and sustainable development,” he said.
