Demand for garments to rise by 40pc

DOHA: With the long summer vacations approaching, the demand for garments is expected to grow by 40 percent, says the head of Al Saeed Commercial Center, Mabkhout Salem Al Khawar. 

“Traditionally, with the arrival of spring season and summer vocations, the market witnesses huge turnout of customers and face increasing demand for garments,” Al Khawar was quoted by Arabic daily Al Sharq yesterday.

He added that the trade in garments and textiles in Qatar grew by almost 25 percent in the last two years taking the total value of the industry to nearly QR2bn in 2012 compared to QR1.6bn in 2010.

Al Khawar said that the centre is preparing for the opening of new branches in the local market to meet the growing demand for garments and fabric. His company is also planning to import more internationally renowned brands that are famous in the fashion and garment industry. He said that the centre has achieved good growth, and it is always keen in bringing high-quality merchandise and new collections from good designers and famous models to enhance consumer’s confidence. 

He pointed out that according to the recent statistics, the exports of Qatari fabrics amounted to about QR50m, while the total value of garments’ exports stood at QR360m, while the total value of readymade garment imports stood at QR800m.
