DOHA: Grocer Spinneys was forced to temporarily close its outlet at the Pearl-Qatar after Doha municipality discovered health violations, arabianbusiness.com reported yesterday.

The Beirut-based firm is one of the Middle East’s major food retail chains, with stores across Lebanon, Egypt, the UAE, Qatar and Jordan.

“Unfortunately, there were weevils in a packet of dry pasta. The municipality have decided that the store should close for a period of time,” wrote Michael Wright, Spinneys CEO, on Spinneys Qatar’s Facebook page.

Wright added in a follow-up message that the closure would last a month, and that staff had been relocated to Spinney’s The Mall branch in the mean time.

Spinneys is the second outlet on the manmade Pearl-Qatar to be closed down in recent weeks. An outlet of Thai restaurant Mango Tree was shuttered after expired food was reportedly discovered in the kitchen, said the magazine. THE PENINSULA
