Doha: Qatar national cricket team, after an exceptional tour of Singapore, returned home to a warm welcome at the Hamad International Airport on Sunday night.
Amin Ul Islam, Head of the School Boys Cricket and Member of the Management of the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), was present on the occasion to receive the Qatar National Team players, who defeated Singapore, in all the three Twenty20 Internationals and two One-Day Internationals matches.
QCA President MA Shahid lauded Qatar’s performance in Singapore.
“Qatar showed their real potential against a higher-ranked opponent and won all the five matches which is quite creditable for us. This display should encourage our players to work harder so that they raise their performance level in the future series. I want to congratulate all the players and members of the support staff for this unique success.”
The successful trip has not only helped Qatar improve its image, it will also gain them valuable ranking points. Qatar Airways, a long-time partner with the QCA in the development of the sport in Qatar, had sponsored the trip.
QCA General Secretary Ahmad said: “The trip was wonderful for us. We won all the three T20 matches and both the ODIs quite convincingly. All the players were determined to do well and they proved it on the ground as well. He added that QCA vision is to reach initially to the Asia Cup and World Cup Twenty20. “It was indeed a praiseworthy team effort by the players and I hope the national team will continue to raise its level in future endeavours too,” added Ahmad.
“We intended to invite other countries to play more matches in Qatar,” he said.
