GCC team visits civil defence college

The GCC delegation touring the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College at Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Doha: A GCC delegation consisting of fire fighting and Civil Defence Training officers visited Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) at Ras Laffan Industrial City recently.

The visit was held on the sidelines of the meeting of Interior Ministers of GCC countries held in Riyadh in November last year for civil defence training. 

The GCC delegation’s visit to Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College, Qatar and Civil Defence Academy, UAE as part of the programme. 

Acting director of the College and Training In-charge John Swaine welcomed the guests and wished for a rich exchange of expertise in safety training. Mohammed Hasan from the Administration section of the college delivered a presentation on RLESC explaining its vision, objectives and plans. He said the college will provide bachelors degree in fire-fighting and safety training. 

He added that Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), a member of the Texas A&M University System is the training provider. TEEX is internationally acclaimed in the area of advanced practical emergency and safety training.

The primary aim of RLESC is to train emergency and safety professionals in oil, gas and petrochemical industries, marine, civil aviation, civil defence, industrial fire fighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, search and rescue, health and safety, medical emergency, internal security, public safety and public works.

He explained that the college focuses on two fields — academic files based on information and knowledge — training field to develop training skills of trainers from inside and outside the country. Later, the delegation toured the college, inspected college facilities training areas of fire-fighting for aircraft, ships, trains, chemical containers, and inspected models of buildings, containers, trains and aircraft.

The delegation was accompanied by assistant director of Operations Department of Civil Defence Brig Jamal Jafar Al Ajmi, Assistant Director of Administration of Affairs Maj Mohammed Ahin and Assistant Director of Logistics Department Maj Ahmed Al Abdullah. 

The delegation members expressed their happiness over the world class training facilities in the college and wished that it will be good initiative where the GCC students can complete safety training in GCC itself without resorting to European countries.
