SINGAPORE: Tanzania has bought more than 315,000 tonnes of oil products for January from Swiss trader Augusta Energy, about 50 percent higher than its December purchase, industry sources said on Wednesday.

The Petroleum Importation Coordinator, which represents oil marketing companies in Tanzania, has bought 202,700 tonnes of gasoil at a premium of $50.93 a tonne above Middle East quotes.

It also bought 85,700 tonnes of gasoline at a premium of $112.55 a tonne above Mediterranean quotes and 29,950 tonnes of jet fuel and kerosene at a premium of $92.84 a tonne above Middle East quotes.

The cargoes are to be delivered in the first half of January.

The weighted average price for the tender was $71.46 a tonne, one of the sources said, though this could not immediately be verified.

Tanzanian importers last bought 130,000 tonnes of gasoil, 52,050 tonnes of gasoline, 22,200 tonnes of jet fuel and 6,250 tonnes of kerosene from another Swiss oil trader Addax Energy.

They paid a premium of $53.978 a tonne for the cargoes, which are priced according to a weighted average of Middle East and Mediterranean quotes.

Tanzania, east Africa's second-largest economy, is heavily reliant on hydropower and frequently suffers from blackouts.
