DOHA: The Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) has moved to its new premises in the Diplomatic Tower in Dafna, authorities announced yesterday.
Lamis Nassar, Head of outreach programme, said in a release that the relocation reflects the centre’s intention to enhance its work in Qatar, the Arab region and the rest of the world.
“The new premises provide adequate technical support for the centre’s various programs and will enable DCMF to more effectively continue its mission to promote media freedom and access to information,” she said. The new offices include lecture space for hosting in-house meetings and training sessions as well as other developments to promote a comfortable and effective working environment.
The site will also include a studio for audio-visual production which is scheduled to be opened in April 2015.
Additionally, the location involves work space for local journalists and visiting correspondents, who will be able to use the centre’s facilities. This area will include an up-to-date library, free internet service and a selection of international newspapers, magazines and periodicals. The space is also intended to be used by media students in Qatar, including students from Qatar University and Northwestern University in Qatar.
DCMF hopes to create an open-door policy for local media persons, welcoming members of the media fraternity to communicate and work together and to discuss issues facing their profession and media freedom in general, she said.
