ISLAMABAD: A senior leader of Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the main opposition party, yesterday said that the commitment between the government and the PML-N to foil all the conspiracies against democracy should not be considered reconciliation between the two parties.
PML-N Deputy General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal while talking to the media maintained that the outcome of the telephonic talk between their party President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf should not be mistaken as start of reconciliation between the two parties.
He pointed out that the PML N and the PPP were still archrivals but their rivalry should not destabilise the democratic process in the country.
CNG sector likely to face full shutdown
ISLAMABAD: The past week in Pakistan witnessed an extraordinary rush of vehicles at petrol stations as there was no compressed natural gas (CNG) supply and even not enough petrol.
The crisis emerged when the vehicles running on CNG were left with no other option but to opt for petrol thanks to unavailability of the cheap fuel.
But as the motorists reached the filling stations to fill their tanks with petrol, the latter had no sufficient stock to meet the rising demand. Though the petrol shortage was overcome within about 24 hours, the CNG shutdown appears to be a permanent phenomenon.
“The gas supply to CNG stations in Punjab is expected to remain suspended during January because of the high domestic demand caused by the low temperature,” said Amjad Latif, a senior official of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines.
Retired judge may be named Punjab CM
LAHORE: While the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have yet to start consultative process for an interim set-up in Punjab, Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood has hinted at likely appointment of a ‘retired judge’ as caretaker chief minister.
The governor, from Muslim League-Functional, is tasked with developing a consensus between the PML-N and the PPP for smooth transition to an interim set-up as he is said to have good relations with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. “Yes, I am mandated to develop a consensus between the PML-N and the PPP regarding a caretaker set-up and it will be done shortly,” he said.

PESHAWAR: In a bid to protect health workers against militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government has decided not to publicise the schedule of the future polio vaccination campaigns.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by provincial health secretary Mohammad Ishfaq Khan here after the postponement of a three-day anti-polio campaign slated to begin in the day.
