Doha: A two-day forum on cultural gap between generations organised by Juvenile Police Department of the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with the Children’s Cultural Centre recommended the renewal of national legislation system in line with absorbing and comprehending the differences between generations according to changes taking place in the community.
It also recommended cooperation among civil institutions of different understanding on awareness about changes in lifestyles, analysing data of trends and their impact on individuals and society. The forum also stressed the importance of the role of civil institutions and civil society organisations in reducing the contrast and the gap between generations.
The forum, under the patronage of H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, urged authorities to set up a parental advisory clinic under the ministry to discuss and solves issues between parents and children.
It also called for producing more television programmes to address various issues faced by teens, in coordination with concerned bodies. It stressed the significance of holding training sessions for those working with children to develop their skills in dealing with parental issues resulting from the gap between generations.
The forum asked parents to keep pace with changes occurring in society and benefit from those as means of communication and closeness with their children.
The forum said that educational curriculum should include concepts of care and love for parents, while maintaining bonds of the family system.
The forum also said that parents should set a good example for children in their dealings between them or with others and should not show their differences in front of children.
The forum said that problems of children should be solved through discussion and called for educating children and parents through awareness programmes on how to re-formulate beliefs, attitudes and values in the light of changes occurring in society.
The participants recommended the need to promote Islamic values that encourage honouring one’s parents and parental responsibility.
It also called for activating the role of the family in doing its part in the sound upbringing of children and developing awareness among them, especially religious consciousness while providing a school environment suitable for personality development to meet the needs for developing thought and creativity.
