DOHA: Lulu Hypermarket Group launched a British Food Festival at all its outlets in the region yesterday. In Qatar, the Festival is being hosted by the Group in association with the British Embassy and British Council, Doha, and was jointly inaugurated by British ambassador Nicholas Hopton and his wife Alexandria Hopton at Lulu Hypermarket, Barwa City in the presence of Mohamed Althaf, Director, Shaijan M O, Regional Director, senior officials from Lulu Qatar Region, dignitaries from British Council and UK Trade and Investment, and senior executives from leading business groups in the retail industry.
The festival, which runs until March 15, is showcasing a wide range of British products, including grocery, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, frozen foods, bakery products, fish, hot food, household items and health and beauty products.
The event is being organised in line with celebrations envisaged by the British Embassy and based on Lulu’s annual events calendar for Lulu Hypermarket outlets in all regions. The objective is to celebrate the culinary heritage and food habits of the Western world and to introduce them to the local community as well as expatriate communities from various countries in Qatar.
Lulu Group has been organising British food festivals for many years, and according to the management the response has been overwhelming.
As a global player in the retail sector, Lulu Group launched its operations in Birmingham, Britain with the inauguration of Y International (UK) Ltd. in the year 2013. The major activities of this fully-owned subsidiary are procurement, consolidation and export of British products to the group’s 113 retail stores.
