DOHA: In order to mark the Sri Lanka’s 70th Independence Day, the Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ) conducted many competitions among Sri Lankan schoolchildren living in Qatar for the fifteenth consecutive year.
The competitions like Public Speaking, Essay Writing, Drawing and Coloring and were held in four age categories: Sub Junior, Junior, Intermediate and Seniors. certain competitions for Senior Essay, Intermediate Essay, Junior Prepared Speech and Drawing competitions were held on February 9 at Stafford Sri Lankan School while the rest of the competitions for Senior prepared Speech, Intermediate Prepared Speech and Sub Junior Coloring competitions were held on February 23 at the Sri Lankan Embassy premises.
There were more than 150 participants who presented their skills and talents in various disciplines of this much awaited event.
R. Kohula Rangan, Counsellor for Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar was the chief guest and graced the occasion on behalf H E ASP Liyanaga- Sri Lankan Ambassador to Qatar.
Many other distinguished guests graced also the event. prizes, certificates and tokens of appreciations were awarded to the respective winners and the judges. Al Raya Water company, the main sponsor of the event, provided gift vouchers whilst, Al Jaber Holding and Q Bake also supported the event.
SLMQ was established in 2001 with aim to facilitate greater interaction and fellowship among the Sri Lankan residents in Qatar. It is also involved in charitable, educational, religious, and social welfare activities in Qatar and Sri Lanka.
SLMQ also serves all the Sri Lankans residing in Qatar, in order to promote community-building efforts in Sri Lanka, under the patronage of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar.
