Chandigarh: Screening of Punjabi film Sadda Haq, which was slated to be released yesterday, was banned in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh by authorities in the two states and the union territory.
Producer-actor Kuljinder Singh termed the decision to ban the film as “shameful”.
The film is about the days of terrorism in Punjab. The state witnessed deadly violence by separatist militants from 1981 to 1992.
“The Punjab government has imposed ban on the screening of movie Sadda Haq till further orders. This step has been taken to maintain communal harmony in the state,” an official spokesman said yesterday.
The film had got clearance from the censor board and even a panel of the Sikh religious body, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, had cleared the film for screening in Punjab.
Release of the film was opposed by some right-wing groups.
