DOHA: Al Bayan Independent School and ExxonMobil Qatar recently partnered to give the school’s incoming 10th grade students an opportunity to participate in MathCount, a programme developed in the US more than 30 years ago to help students improve their maths skills.
Nearly 60 students had the opportunity to enhance their maths abilities in an encouraging environment.
They were introduced to new methods of solving problems by qualified maths teachers.
Several assessments were conducted throughout the course, enabling each student to track their progress.
The course was developed to correlate with the school’s 10th grade curriculum, allowing students to get a head-start on next year’s maths requirements.
Faten Al Najjar, Academic Vice Principal at Al Bayan Independent School, reinforced the objectives of making the programme fun, enjoyable and productive.
“Maths is a cornerstone to provide Qatar with outstanding future scientists and engineers, and it’s up to us to get our students excited about the subject at an early age,” she said.
“At ExxonMobil, we try to interact with students on many levels,” said Abdullatif Al Naemi, National Development Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar,” Al Najjar added.
“As an employer of more than 18,000 scientists and engineers, we understand maths is an important skill for all students as it can have a big impact on the success of their education and future careers.”
ExxonMobil has a long-standing commitment to promote education and continually seeks opportunities to contribute to education initiatives, particularly in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Through its support of a number of educational organisations in Qatar, including Qatar University, Texas A&M University at Qatar, the World Innovation Summit for Education, internship programmes and INJAZ Al Arab, ExxonMobil continues its commitment to educate the next generation of engineers and scientists.
