New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yesterday moved the Supreme Court, challenging a Bombay High Court order holding as illegal and unconstitutional its two-member panel probing allegations of betting in the Indian Premier League.
The panel, comprising retired judges T Jayarama Chouta and R Balasubramanian, had given a clean chit to BCCI president N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, the Chennai Super Kings team principal, and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra.
Srinivasan, who had stepped aside as the BCCI head, came under a cloud because of Meiyappan’s alleged involvement.
The probe panel had also absolved Meiyappan and Kundra of the allegation of betting.
The BCCI disagreed with the high court order that the probe panel was not set up in accordance with its constitution and rules, and contended it was perfectly in order and sought a stay on the high court verdict.
On July 2, the BCCI had decided to move the apex court to challenge the high court verdict that came in the way of Srinivasan getting reinstated as the cricketing body’s head.
