Doha: Total’s summer internship programme, which began in May, concludes in September.

Eight Qatari and expatriate students participated in this internship programme, which lasted between 4 to 8 weeks per student, and was aimed to provide the students with a full and realistic view of workplace culture and expectations, while integrating academic preparation with professional challenges.

The students, who are studying Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, Accounting and Administration from different universities in Qatar and abroad, were each assigned a coach from the Business Development, Al Khalij Asset, Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Finance and IT departments, as well as the Total Research Centre Qatar to train them in their respective fields.

Some of the students travelled offshore to meet and interact directly with Total’s employees present in Alkhalij field.

Carolina Pretzel, Deputy HR Manager, Total E&P Qatar, said: “Total’s Summer Internship programme is an opportunity to gain firsthand experience of the company’s business lines, fields of expertise, and culture. We look for hardworking and ambitious students, from all academic backgrounds.

“They train with professionals in their field of study, and at the end of their internship, the students generally become confident and more informative about their majors, and also the oil and gas industry as a whole”.

Total values human development as one of the key elements to the successful future of Qatar, and is committed to sharing its expertise with promising Qatari and expatriate students.

Last month, Total sponsored 4 students to participate in its Summer School programme in Paris, France from 30th June 2013 to 5th July 2013.

The students got the opportunity to interact with 116 other students from all over the world, and to analyse and discuss major energy issues and challenges, alongside key managers and a number of experts from the fields of Science, Research and business.

Total also launched its International Scholarship Programme last month, which provides four Qatari nationals an amazing opportunity to spend one year in France to further their education in the most prestigious schools. This is based on partnerships with leading universities in 26 countries around the world.

The programme offers the scholars the opportunity to enrol in Master of Engineering, MBA and Doctoral Programmes in a wide range of topics, from petroleum and engineering to economics, management, political science, law and public affairs.
