Doha: The 10th local Dates festival, a cornerstone event organized by the Ministry of Municipality (MoM) and Souq Waqif, is in its final days, celebrating a resounding success that has captivated residents and visitors alike.
As the festival concluded its thirteenth day, organizers released impressive statistics highlighting the event’s significant impact on the local economy and its role in promoting Qatar’s rich agricultural heritage.
The festival has proved to be a major draw for the community, with the total number of visitors surpassing 78,300.
In addition to the remarkable attendance, the festival has achieved staggering sales figures.
A total of 150,863 kilograms of dates have been sold so far, reflecting a strong demand for high-quality, locally grown dates.
The Festival hosted produce from a total of 114 farms in Qatar, offering a diverse range of dates, including popular varieties such as Khalas dates, a premium variety widely cultivated in the gulf region, selling more than 66,008 kilograms.
Other dates include the Shishi variety, known for their firm texture and subtle sweetness, selling more than 29,379 kilograms.
Khunaizi variety, known for their dark brown to black color, soft texture, and mildly sweet flavor, selling more than 28,494 kilograms.
Barhi variety, know for their sweetness, creamy texture, and unique flavor profile that can be enjoyed at different stages of ripeness, sold more than 15,875 kilograms.
Other varieties were also a major attraction, selling more than 11,087 kilograms throughout the festival.
The festival also saw the selling of a total number of fruits, reaching 1,858 kilograms so far.
The Ministry encourages the attendance for the last days of the festival before it concludes on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
With only two days left, the festival is open for the public from 4pm till 9pm in Souq Waqif’s eastern square.
